Our lighting products use a patent-pending, sophisticated control technology called the Self Powerd Device Interface (SPDI). SPDI is a microprocessor-based, solid-state device that allows for unprecedented control of LED lighting applications, flexible interfaces and much more.
The SPDI architecture is a universally extensible access point for intelligently interfacing between the PV power generation, an AC power source, power storage and distribution to an application. It provides an easy way to use grid-based power and incorporate solar by encapsulating the inner workings of a solar PV system and seamlessly switching between the two. It supports standard interfaces for AC, batteries, solar cells and applications.
For solar/electric hybrid devices, SPDI can intelligently manage charging the battery, discharging the battery to feed power to the lights and increasing and decreasing levels of illumination. Control can be programmed with many inputs: clock time, ambient light levels, temperature, battery charge level and motion detection. There are also multiple interfaces for other customer-defined inputs. SPDI automatically handles the switch between battery and grid power. If the insolation (solar gain) on a particular day has not sufficiently charged the battery, or if the battery charge becomes low, then the processor will automatically switch to grid power to ensure adequate lighting levels are maintained. These can be user-controlled, as well.
SPDI carefully manages the voltage and current driving the LEDs, controlling power spikes and maintaining LED longevity. SPDI also performs as a charge controller, leading to increased battery lifetime. Finally, SPDI provides usage information and status for each light. Light level, motion, stored power, battery status and LED statuses, among others, are all monitored. |
